John Weber - Head Varsity Coach (19th season head coach; 20th at Cypress)

 

John Weber continues to lead the Centurion baseball program into the 2025 season as the longest tenured baseball coach in Cypress history. Under Weber, the Centurions have won the 2013 CIF-SS Division 2 championship, and the 2019 CIF-SS Division 1 title.  With the 2019 season’s championship run came much recognition.  The team was named the Perfect Game National Champions.  Coach Weber was honored as the USA Today National HIgh School Coach of the Year 2019, the Max Preps National Coach of the Year 2019, Cal-Hi State Coach of the Year 2019, and the CIF-SS Division 1 Coach of the Year.  Now in his 20th season as head coach and 21st with Cypress baseball he has continued and expanded upon the proud heritage that had been established at Cypress.  In his first season at Cypress in 2005, he helped lead the team to its first CIF championship as an assistant coach.  Prior to coaching at Cypress, Weber was an assistant at Los Alamitos High School and Santa Ana College. Coach Weber gained valuable experience working for legendary former head coach Don Sneddon at Santa Ana College for 10 years.  While assisting Coach Sneddon, the Dons won state championships in 1995 and 1996. In addition, Coach Weber was a head coach in the Alaskan summer league for several years, instructing college players.  Coach Weber is an excellent instructor and motivator who can teach all aspects of the game on offense, defense, and pitching.  He takes pride in teaching the mental side of the game as he prepares players for each season, each game, and each play.  His knowledge and personality have created great relationships with his former players over the years at Cypress.  Coach takes pride in his field and has worked to continually improve the facility each year, making the Cypress Baseball field one of the most pristine in the county.  Coach Weber currently serves on the CIF-SS Advisory Committee for baseball to make recommendations and improvements for high school baseball in the Southern Section.  Coach was an assistant for the USA 15U team in the summer of 2023 in which they won all their international games.  He has also served with USA Baseball’s Task Force Staff in 2014 and 2015 for the 12U team, 2015 with the 18U team, and 2021 for the 14U team in Arizona and North Carolina helping to evaluate players and select the USA teams.  In his 19 years as head coach at Cypress, Web’s teams have won 15 Empire League championships and two CIF championships.  He has been named the OC Register’s 2013 Coach of the Year and the 2019 LA Times Southland Coach of the Year.  His teams have won at least 20 games in 14 of his 19 seasons.  He has had numerous Cypress players that have gone on to play professionally or collegiately, highlighted by Jarren Duran the 2024 MLB All-Star Game MVP.  Among other distinguished alumni are David Fletcher (Angels, Braves),  Adam Wilk (LB State; Tigers MLB debut 2011), Mike Morrison (CS Fullerton; Tigers), Josh Vitters (3rd pick overall 2007, Cubs MLB debut 2012), David Nick (4th rd. 2009 D-Backs), Tyler Alamo (23rd rd. Cubs), Dominic Fletcher (Arkansas; Diamondbacks 2nd round 2019 draft pick), , and Nick Montgomery (5th rd. draft pick, Braves 2024).   Coach Weber has been teaching Special Education at Cypress for the past 27 years and holds a degree from Cal State Fullerton.  He lives in Long Beach with his wife, Gina, and their two children, Mia, 23, and Miles, 20.
